Reviewed 22 October 2026. GOV.UK currently lists Student visa maintenance at £1,529 per month in London and £1,171 outside London, for up to nine months. The applicable outstanding tuition amount is a separate part of the funding calculation.
For a nine-month calculation, the living-cost totals are £13,761 in London and £10,539 outside London. Applicants should check their own circumstances and evidence rules. Where the standard cash-funds requirement applies, the funds normally need to be held for 28 consecutive days, with the period ending within 31 days of application.
Do not use the maintenance figure as a quotation for real living expenses. Accommodation deposits, travel and ordinary spending should be budgeted using current information for the actual campus location. A family can satisfy a minimum evidence calculation and still need a larger practical budget.
Put the CAS tuition amount, documented payments, relevant living funds and evidence dates on one sheet. If using a loan, sponsorship or a parent's funds, read the corresponding official requirements. Avoid counting a tuition payment as money still available for living costs.
