UK Graduate Visa 2027: Application Date Determines the 18-Month Period

📰 Study Abroad 📅 23 Oct 2026

Reviewed 22 October 2026. Indian students planning UK study should distinguish their course start date from the date of a future Graduate visa application. The official guidance sets the non-doctoral period at 18 months for applications made from 1 January 2027. The doctoral period remains three years, subject to eligibility.

What applicants should check

The rule should be considered when comparing the cost and value of a degree. It is not a reason to assume an earlier intake secures the old period. Eligibility and the requirements at the time of application still matter.

For students already approaching completion, ask the university when it expects to confirm successful completion to the Home Office. Do not confuse an examination date or graduation ceremony with the completion reporting needed for an application. Keep your current visa expiry and any planned travel on the same calendar.

What this means for a new study plan

Compare course content, total funding and your preparation for employment. Avoid a budget that depends on obtaining a particular job immediately after study. A useful degree should improve your skills for more than one possible employment market.
