Reviewed 22 October 2026. ETS introduced a 1–6 TOEFL iBT score scale in half-point increments from 21 January 2026. During the two-year transition, reports also include a comparable overall result on the earlier 0–120 scale. Universities continue to set their own admission requirements.
Record the overall and section conditions published by your intended university. If its page still uses an earlier description, ask how it assesses results from your planned test date. Save the written answer rather than relying on an unofficial conversion.
Use current preparation materials and confirm which test version a coaching provider teaches. A familiar practice book may still help general English, but its task descriptions and score targets need checking against the examination you will actually take.
Take a diagnostic covering reading, listening, speaking and writing. Build a plan with specific feedback, timed practice and realistic mocks. Repeating full practice tests without reviewing mistakes can leave the same weaknesses unresolved.
iYou Global's TOEFL preparation page provides a starting point for course enquiries. Our English test preparation guide explains how to compare coaching and independent study. Students also considering flexible academic study can use the online degree guide to plan a manageable workload. This is a current-format reminder, not a new scoring change announced in October.
