What Will the MAT Scorecard Be Used For?

MAT is a national-level management entrance examination used by participating business schools for admission to MBA, PGDM and allied management programmes.

AIMA states that MAT scores are accepted by hundreds of business schools and university departments.

However, simply qualifying for or receiving a MAT score does not automatically guarantee admission.

Each participating institution can determine its own:

  • MAT cutoff
  • Programme eligibility
  • Academic requirements
  • Group Discussion process
  • Personal Interview requirements
  • Written Ability Test, where applicable
  • Work-experience weightage
  • Final admission criteria

Candidates should therefore check the admission policy of every B-school they plan to apply to.

AIMA itself advises candidates to verify the approval and recognition status of programmes and confirm score acceptance directly with the concerned institution before applying. AIMA

MAT September 2026 Exam Pattern

The September MAT examination consisted of 150 questions to be attempted in 120 minutes.

The five sections were:

MAT SectionQuestions

Intelligence & Critical Reasoning30
Mathematical Skills30
Data Analysis & Sufficiency30
Economic & Business Environment30
Total150

AIMA specifies negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. AIMA

How Long Is the MAT Score Valid?

According to AIMA, a MAT score has a validity of one year.

MAT is conducted multiple times during the year, and AIMA also states that candidates can appear in multiple administrations, with the best score being accepted from multiple attempts under its MAT framework. AIMA

Candidates must still verify the score-acceptance policy and admission deadline of the individual management institution where they intend to apply.

What Should Candidates Do After the MAT Result?

Once your September scorecard is available, do not stop at simply checking the number.

Your next steps should include:

  • Downloading and preserving the scorecard
  • Checking the MAT-accepting institutes on your shortlist
  • Comparing individual college cutoffs
  • Checking MBA/PGDM application deadlines
  • Reviewing fees and programme specialisations
  • Checking accreditation and recognition
  • Preparing for GD, PI or other selection rounds
  • Keeping suitable backup colleges
  • Comparing MAT options with your other MBA entrance scores

A good admission strategy should be based on college quality, programme fit and career outcome, rather than applying to every institution that accepts MAT.

Appearing for Other MBA Entrance Exams Too?

Many MAT candidates also keep more than one MBA entrance route open.
