The main requirements include:

  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
  • The candidate must hold a primary medical qualification awarded outside India.
  • That qualification must be recognised for enrolment as a medical practitioner in the country where the awarding institution is located, as confirmed by the concerned Indian Embassy.

An Eligibility Certificate issued by NMC or the erstwhile MCI is required wherever applicable.

For Indian citizens or OCIs who obtained admission to a foreign primary medical qualification on or after May 2018, the qualifying NEET-UG result is treated as the Eligibility Certificate, subject to the applicable regulations.

Candidates should not assume eligibility simply because they hold a foreign medical degree. The qualification, admission conditions and required documents must comply with the applicable NMC/NBEMS rules.

Studied MBBS Abroad? Check the Rules Before Planning Your Next Step

FMGE eligibility begins much earlier than the examination form. Indian students considering medicine abroad should check NMC requirements, course duration, clinical training, internship structure and the recognition status applicable to their chosen programme before taking admission.

iYou Global has already published a related guide comparing current foreign medical admission options across Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, including important NMC considerations. MBBS Abroad Admissions 2026–27: Key Countries

This is a useful internal link to retain in the FMGE story because students and parents researching foreign medical education should understand the Indian licensing requirements before choosing an overseas medical university.
