NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 3 Begins: Choice Filling from Sept 23

📰 Counselling 📅 23 Sep 2026

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has started NEET UG 2026 Round 3 counselling registration on September 22, beginning another important stage of the MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing admission process.

Candidates can complete Round 3 registration until September 27, 2026 at 3 PM, while the payment facility will remain available until 6 PM on September 27.

Choice filling does not begin on September 22. According to the official MCC schedule, candidates can start submitting their college and course preferences from September 23, 2026.

Round 3 is particularly important for candidates who are still seeking a suitable medical or dental seat, as available choices can change after earlier-round admissions, resignations, upgrades and additions to the counselling pool.

Who Does MCC Round 3 Counselling Cover?

MCC’s central NEET UG counselling process covers the applicable 15% All India Quota seats as well as counselling under institutions and categories within its notified jurisdiction, including participating deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS, JIPMER and other covered institutions for MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing admissions.

Candidates should still check their individual counselling eligibility before registering because state-quota counselling is conducted separately by state authorities.

NEET UG Round 3 Choice Filling: What Candidates Should Do

Choice filling is one of the most important parts of counselling because seat allotment depends on your rank, category, available seats and the order in which you submit your preferences.

Before filling choices:

  • Check the latest available seat matrix and any MCC notices about newly added, withdrawn or revised seats.
  • Prepare your college preference list before logging into the portal.
  • Arrange colleges in the order you genuinely prefer them, rather than trying to predict where you might get a seat.
  • Compare government, deemed and other participating colleges carefully for fees, location, hospital exposure and admission conditions.
  • Include realistic options as well as ambitious choices where appropriate.
  • Recheck college and course codes before saving preferences.
  • Complete choice locking within the official locking window rather than waiting until the final minutes.
  • Save or print your submitted choices and confirmation for your records.

One of the most common mistakes is placing a less-preferred college above a college you actually want more.

MCC seat allocation considers the preference sequence you submit along with merit and seat availability. Candidates should therefore think of their choice list as a genuine priority order rather than a random collection of colleges.

When Does Choice Locking Start?

Choice locking is scheduled to open at 7 PM on September 27.

Candidates will have until 12 Noon on September 28 to complete locking according to the current MCC timetable.

Do not confuse choice filling with choice locking.

Choice filling begins earlier, on September 23, giving candidates several days to add, remove and rearrange preferences before the final locking window.

This means you do not need to build the entire list in the final few hours.

What Should You Check in the Round 3 Seat Matrix?

Before finalising choices, candidates should compare the seats actually available for Round 3.

Seat availability may differ from earlier rounds because candidates may have joined, upgraded, resigned where permitted, or vacated seats. Additional seats may also become available through official MCC updates.

The MCC portal provides counselling-related seat information and candidate facilities for the 2026 session. Candidates should rely on the latest MCC display while filling choices rather than screenshots or lists circulating in WhatsApp or Telegram groups.

Should You Copy Someone Else’s Choice List?

No.

A good preference list is personal.

Two candidates with similar NEET ranks can reasonably have different choice orders because they may have different priorities regarding:

College reputation, government vs private status, tuition fees, city, distance from home, hostel facilities, patient load, clinical exposure and future postgraduate plans.

A counselling list copied from another student may therefore be completely unsuitable for your own profile.

Use previous cut-offs as a reference—not as a guarantee.

What Happens After Choice Filling?

Once the Round 3 choice window closes, MCC will process seat allotment on September 28 and 29.

The Round 3 allotment result is scheduled for September 30, 2026.

Candidates who receive an allotment will then have the reporting period from October 1 to October 9 to complete the applicable admission formalities at the allotted institute.

Candidates should read the Round 3 rules carefully before taking any decision involving joining, reporting, resignation or further participation, because consequences can differ between counselling rounds.

What If You Still Do Not Get a Seat in Round 3?

MCC has also announced an Online Stray Vacancy Round after Round 3.

Under the current schedule, stray-vacancy registration is planned from October 12 to October 14, with choice filling continuing until October 15 and the result scheduled for October 17, 2026.

Candidates should not assume that everyone will automatically be eligible for the stray round. Eligibility depends on the applicable counselling rules and a candidate’s status in earlier rounds.

Always check the latest MCC information bulletin and notices before participating.

Round 3 Candidates Should Avoid Last-Minute Decisions

Round 3 often creates extra pressure because students may be comparing an existing seat with a possible upgrade or deciding how aggressively to expand their preference list.

Take decisions based on verified college information.

Before placing a college high on your list, compare its:

Fees, recognition, clinical exposure, hospital facilities, location, hostel arrangements and admission conditions.

Do not place a college above another option unless you would genuinely prefer receiving that college.
